VASH

vash the stampede, also dubbed the humanoid typhoon and the 66 billion double dollar man, is a human disaster, roaming around no man's land. that is the name he made for himself. in actuality, all his willing actions were to prevent casualties, no killing no matter how dire the situation was and to refrain others from doing so too. love and peace is his core philosophy, what he hopes humanity can amount to, what he hopes will remain when he and his brother are no longer part of the picture.

BEGINNINGS

independent plants born suddenly with his twin brother, vash was taken in by rem, the sole crew member in project seeds who was awake to bear witness to their birth. from what max provided, the first year was steady, but awkward, rem thrusted into the role of motherhood, still learning to navigate it as she took care of the fast growing plants. they both held clear appreciation for rem and showed a general interest in humanity, learned what they could from books and from rem. vash held a realistic, almost leaning on pessimism, when it came to humans, believing there is a cautious difference from the two species and to approach them carefully.

THE ALLURE OF VASH THE STAMPEDE

when stampede came out, there is an infamous tweet within the trigun community attached to a screencap of vash, "lord almighty they are gonna do crazy things to this guy's cervix on twitter." blonde and androgynously masc with his gigantic blue eyes, the appeal was already there. what really set it in was when people got to experience his kind, goofy, mysteriously off-standish but still friendly demeanor, straight off the bat from episode 1. it's like the most delectable apple hung on a fishing pole, waved in front of a mass gathering of horses, people loved vash! but even before the 2023 version, he held a quiet space in the memory of those who saw that flashy yellow hair and the ragged cool coat blowing against the desert sky on adultswim. in 98, he was even goofier, sillier, a "hunter of the elusive mayfly of love", all that was reflected in 2023 episode but multiplied by a hundred. he was also incredibly cool with his precisive shots dealt with his colt.

i am obsessed with vash's trimax design. he has multiple outfit changes with small variations to his coat and leather under armor, sometimes inconsistent as nightow tended to be, but all of them highlights the silhouette, dragging that into importantance, as its the main meat of vash. his spikey hair, his yellow-orange glasses, the flow of his long jacket, his thin flightly legs. my favorite is the outfit he wears from vol 3-7, with the pointy clasps down the center of the cropped part of his jacket.

when people mix vash's designs, i can't blame them because even if the new vash has his hype moments, nothing will come close to the original raw power of his original red flowy jacket and the plant feathery angel-like design of the manga.

VASH'S PHILOSOPHY

it's important to recognize where vash gained his philosophy from, how he came to value humanity so much that he wouldn't kill for over 150 years, even when his scars skept building.

vash is not infallible either. when he pushed the front end of his colt into monev's eye, gouging it and injuring him horrendously out of pure anger for all he's done, vash wanted to pull the trigger. it was only from the fear of losing rem entirely does he stop himself, stating that if he killed, it would be as though he's killing rem. considering how long vash has been alive, it's hard to imagine this was the first time he felt this way. although not the target, he had also almost let a trigger fly when the target done something terrible too, but at the end of his day, if he could help it and if he's present, vash does all he can to save the lives around him, no matter the morality of the situation.

when speaking to wolfwood, vash stated he still didn't know the solution.
